Very much a live act, The Loving Cup's sound was described by Gigwise at a recent Liverpool Barfly gig as "a warm and soulful set of country-influenced rock n roll. The Loving Cup possess a mean songwriting ability for creating driving anthems that positively beg to be blaring out from a soft top Chevy cruising Route 66". In 2003 The Loving Cup released their eponymously-titled debut album on the Blue Rhythm label. Americana-UK said the album "makes all the right noises with high production values, a classic sound and, hey, a really nice cover". Kool Kat Muzik in New Jersey summarised the album as "Terrific hook-filled alt-country sounds from this brilliant new UK group with a vocalist who, at times sounds like Steve Marriot (think Humble Pies country-tinged stuff). Also has a Faces-like swagger throughout." In 2005, as The Loving Cup prepared to release their debut single - a double A-side of previously unreleased material their record label Blue Rhythm folded and so the proposed single release never went ahead. One of the tracks however - ’Candyman’, received considerable television exposure as music for a Morrisons national advertising campaign. The second album by The Loving Cup - Goofer Dust has been received with critical acclaim – ROCK’N’REEL gave it 5/5 saying “stone southern soul oozing from every pore….This is straight-talking, dancefloor rock'n'roll with a swagger in its stride.” Blues Matters said “If “Goofer Dust” is one word; it is infectious….11 tracks which could all be singles.” Americana UK said “This is a blue collar working mans country rock album. Chock full of guitar and thumping bass and drums, raw vocals and songs about driving (amongst other things).” The Loving Cup have recently received extensive airplay on the Radio 2 show God’s Jukebox. DJ Mark Lammar described the track “Bring along your lovers” from the forthcoming Goofer Dust LP as “an instant classic”. The band performed a live session for his Radio 2 show in September 2008, which has received a very positive response. 2010 already looks like a busy year for The Loving Cup with many live shows already booked around the UK and more on the horizon including shows in France and Sweden. The band have got live sessions planned for two regional radio stations and also BBC Radio Wales in the next few weeks. They are already booked for the Nantwich Jazz & Blues festival and the Tenby Folk festival and are hoping to grace a few more festival stages in the summer. A Harp And A MonkeyHarp and a Monkey are a three-piece from North Manchester who were formed in 2008. They combine folk, electronica and roots and have been wooing audiences around Greater Manchester with their leftfield, but accessible, approach to songsmithery and instrumentation - expect harps, banjos, glockenspiels, melodicas and electro beats in a unique mash-up. The band are Martin Purdy on vocals/ glockenspiel/ electronica and harmonica, Andy Smith on banjo/ guitar/ melodica and electronics and Simon Jones on harp/ guitar and electronics. The trio have been friends for more than 12 years and have their own studio above a greasy spoon in Blackley - where they mix beats with bacon butties. They say: "We love everything from Beethoven to Boards of Canada - but the one stipulation we made when we started was that we wanted it to sound 'English'. The songs are essentially short stories and lyrically in the tradition of acts like The Specials, The Kinks and It's Immaterial as much as traditional folk. We sing about ghosts, unhappy brides, absent fathers and people who dig holes for a living. Twighlight Elevators Twighlight Elevators is the sound of a band who likes to dip their toes in tradition but keep a modern perspective. Marc Ransley’s guitar playing owes as much to Mississippi John Hurt as it does Jim O’ Rourke whilst Joss Worthington’s lyrics punch through in a scattergun fashion never allowing the songs to rest on the comforts of tradition. When it comes to playing live the band has a stripped down intimate charm that evermore continues to win unsuspecting crowds over. Nocebo Nocebo, a subject-oriented adjective that was used to label the harmful, or undesirable reactions (or responses) from a subject as a result of administering an inert dummy drug, these responses had not been chemically generated, and were entirely due to the subject's pessimistic belief and expectation that the drug would produce harmful, unpleasant, or undesirable consequences. In these cases, there is no "real" drug involved, but the actual harmful, undesirable biochemical, physiological, or behavioural consequences of the administration of the inert drug are very real. Formed in late 2008 Nocebo are a 2 piece electronic band who fuse dance beats with spacy synths, ebowed guitars with thumping basslines and soulful vocals with dark orchestral string sections The Oreoh!sOur influences are greenday, The La's and the Black keys although we also like bands like Metronomy, Passion pit and Crystal castles. Ocassionly we flick through our dads punk records at home and have done a few covers of The Buzzcocks and The undertones.
