Originally from Perth but now hailing from Leeds,and earning a reputation as one of the key players on the vibrant music scene there,Gary's well-crafted songs and stage presence are always able to capture and hold audiences at his live performances,his sound firmly rooted in the Folk/Pop singer/songwriter style of Paul Simon and James Taylor.
September 2013 saw the release of Gary's second full album,'Mr.Gary Stewart & The Tin Foil Collective',featuring guest vocals from Peter Gabriel/Birdy collaborator,Rosie Doonan.
Gary's debut album,'Boy Cries Wolf',was released in 2010 and garnered favourable reviews from Maverick Magazine, R2 and Yorkshire Evening Post. The album also received radio play on Steve Lamacq's Radio 2 show and Tom Robinson's BBC6 Music show. In June 2012,following on form the success of his first album,he released his new EP,Year And A Day',to great critical acclaim. The EP was featured on prominent online blogs ‘For Folk's Sake’ and ‘Thank Folk For That’ and the single,'Green', was played on Janice Long's BBC Radio 2 Show and was 'single of the week' on This Is Fake DIY.
In addition to writing and performing his own music Gary keeps himself busy as a full-time member of Ellen and the Escapades (Glastonbury Emerging Talent winners 2010), Rosie Doonan (Birdy/Peter Gabriel) and Hope & Social(Glastonbury Emerging Talent Finalists 2009).
Gary has a wealth of festival experience under his belt including performances at
Glastonbury,Cropredy, Deershed Festival, Otley Folk Festival, Harrogate Festival, Perthshire Amber Festival, Garforth Arts Festival, Kendal Calling, Galtres Festival and Greenbelt Festival.
He has also played support to Laura Marling, Johnny Flynn, James Yorkston, James, Ross Ainslie & Jarlath Henderson, Dougie Maclean, Rachel Sermanni and Karima Francis to name but a few.
